Who We Are

Our Vision

A world in which everyone has a decent place to live.

Our Mission

Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Our Principles

  1. Demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ.
  2. Focus on shelter.
  3. Advocate for affordable housing.
  4. Promote dignity and hope.
  5. Support sustainable and transformative development.

Our History

Hometown Habitat for Humanity was formed in July of 2020 when Wilkes Habitat for Humanity and Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat for Humanity combined into a single affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.

We proudly serve in Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin Counties in North Carolina.

History:

  • Wilkes Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1992, and built and sold 25 Habitat homes.
  • Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1988, and built and sold 22 homes.
  • With this combined total of 47 homes built prior to our merger, Hometown Habitat for Humanity built its 48th home in December 2020, and is currently building homes 49, 50, and 51 in the Town of Wilkesboro.

All Are Welcome In Our Ministry

Hometown Habitat for Humanity has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
